Evaluation Question 3

A Production company plays a significant role in the making of films. It handles tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, scripting, casting, the production itself and may be directly responsible for fundraising. My film may be produced by a small independent production company such as ‘Blue Nile Entertainment’; they were responsible for the production for the feature film ‘The Awakening’ which is also a supernatural thriller (the same genre of my film).

A film distributor has the responsibility of releasing films to the public either theatrically (in cinemas) and/or for home viewing (e.g. DVD, Download, Video-on-demand). My film will most likely to be distributed by big production despite the film’s independent production due to the popularity of its genre.  What also reinforces this belief is that for the film ‘Paranormal Activity’ (a film of a similar genre) which had a very low budget of $15,000 and a first time director was distributed by Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures (two very large and influential production companies).

The film would also be most likely to be funded by the UK Film Council or BFI due to the film being predominantly British (a Category A or B film) and in terms of production would be made up of independent companies.

In my film opening sequence the production company (Red Mist Productions) appears first highlighting the significance of its contribution to the film. My film did not contain titles during the opening sequence due to the fact that it would have distracted the audience away from the action and because many films of its genre contain the titles during scenes of this nature. However if I had chosen to include titles I would have mentioned the director/writer of the film first as without their efforts the film wouldn’t be possible and then also the names of main actors in the film (this is the general order of titles in most films).
